A new television series explores the controversial decision by the government to free up the green belt to developers.
Film-maker Richard Macer spent nine months in Oxfordshire, meeting councillors, developers, architects and campaigners to look at ‘how to mend the broken housing system.’
The first episode of The New Builds are Coming: Battle in the Countryside focussed on plans to build 3,500 homes in Culham.

Two television production companies are contacting parish councils around the country asking them to let residents know about a new TV show being developed for a major UK broadcaster.
The idea behind the show is that they will be funding numerous public art projects around the country and they want people to nominate their own village to win the chance of creating a new landmark for their community
The process will see established artists working with the local people to create large pieces of public art that have specific meaning to the community, such as The Kelpies, the 30-metre-high horse-head sculptures in Falkirk. The companies want people to use public art as a way of creating a discussion about their own shared collective identity. Continue reading

Southern Oxfordshire residents are being invited to vote for their favourite names put forward by local schoolchildren for a new fleet of food waste recycling trucks.
Whether it’s Chomper Charlie, Green Gretil or Banana-Munch Bob, names suggested by primary pupils are out for public vote. Residents can choose their top three out of ten names whittled down from dozens thought up by local children.
The most popular will be printed onto the districts’ new food waste trucks and residents will see them out and about on the roads carrying out weekly food waste collections.

Members of the parish council recently had a meeting with representatives of the North East Didcot Partnership, the project team responsible for delivering the housing development on the fields next to Lady Grove up to the B4016. The scheme includes 1,880 houses, a leisure facility, a commercial area, new primary schools, a secondary school, sports and play provision and new areas of public open space.
The project team presented the latest plan of the development and talked through the expected timeline of delivery. Work is expected to start later this year on the first 300 houses at the southern end of the site together with the necessary roads and infrastructure. Within the next few days residents will be receiving leaflets from a company called West Waddy ADP detailing proposals for a new housing development on the land next to Bodkins Field.
Members of the parish council met with representatives of West Waddy before Christmas and expressed the opinion that the proposals conflict with our Neighbourhood Development Plan. The parish council will discuss this at the next parish council meeting on the 8th February.
In the meantime, residents are encouraged to comment on the proposals directly to West Waddy. We understand that details of how to do this are on the leaflets.
It has been quite a while since the last village meeting about The Community Hub.
At the time the parish council was concentrating on the Kler planning appeal. Kler have now been given outline consent for their site on the corner of Didcot Road and Fieldside. More information on this decision can be viewed here:
