Residents may have noticed new road safety signs around the village. Designed by pupils at Long Wittenham Primary School the signs have been located along village roadsides urging drivers to take extra care and slow down.
Altogether eleven of the colourful signs are in place. One is outside the entrance to Bodkin’s Field where new play equipment was recently installed and two are in Northfield Lane. Six are located on the approach to the village along Little Wittenham Road and a further two in West End near the bend close to the Three Poplars mobile homes park.

Consultants are still examining routes along the main road between Clifton Hampden and Long Wittenham for a proposed cycle path, potentially costing up to half-a-million-pounds, and hope to have a detailed design and report ready by the Spring.

Wittenham Clumps would be damaged if a new link road to the proposed Oxford-Cambridge expressway is built, says the Earth Trust. The charity which manages the Clumps, Little Wittenham Wood, surrounding farm land and forestry, says one of the three proposed link roads from the A34 to the expressway would cut across land designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The result of the public enquiry into Kler’s proposed development of the land at the corner of the Didcot Road and Fieldside is expected in mid January. In the meantime Chris Brotherton and his colleagues at Thomas Homes are making good progress on the planning application to develop the community hub and supporting housing on Mr Weavers’ land off the Didcot Road opposite Saxon’s Heath.
Oxfordshire County Council is to be asked to carry out a road safety audit on the junction of Didcot Road and High Street near The Cross in Long Wittenham.
Plans for up to 29 houses on land off Northfield Lane next to Bodkin’s Field in Long Wittenham have received a frosty reception from parish councillors.
