Name That Waste Truck
Southern Oxfordshire residents are being invited to vote for their favourite names put forward by local schoolchildren for a new fleet of food waste recycling trucks.
Whether it’s Chomper Charlie, Green Gretil or Banana-Munch Bob, names suggested by primary pupils are out for public vote. Residents can choose their top three out of ten names whittled down from dozens thought up by local children.
The most popular will be printed onto the districts’ new food waste trucks and residents will see them out and about on the roads carrying out weekly food waste collections.

North East Didcot Housing Development
Members of the parish council recently had a meeting with representatives of the North East Didcot Partnership, the project team responsible for delivering the housing development on the fields next to Lady Grove up to the B4016. The scheme includes 1,880 houses, a leisure facility, a commercial area, new primary schools, a secondary school, sports and play provision and new areas of public open space.
The project team presented the latest plan of the development and talked through the expected timeline of delivery. Work is expected to start later this year on the first 300 houses at the southern end of the site together with the necessary roads and infrastructure. The project is expected to take between eight and nine years to complete. Continue reading

West Waddy Development
Within the next few days residents will be receiving leaflets from a company called West Waddy ADP detailing proposals for a new housing development on the land next to Bodkins Field.
Members of the parish council met with representatives of West Waddy before Christmas and expressed the opinion that the proposals conflict with our Neighbourhood Development Plan. The parish council will discuss this at the next parish council meeting on the 8th February.
In the meantime, residents are encouraged to comment on the proposals directly to West Waddy. We understand that details of how to do this are on the leaflets.

It has been quite a while since the last village meeting about The Community Hub.
At the time the parish council was concentrating on the Kler planning appeal. Kler have now been given outline consent for their site on the corner of Didcot Road and Fieldside. More information on this decision can be viewed here:

Meanwhile, the council have been working with our developer, Thomas Homes, on designs for The Community Hub on Didcot Road opposite Saxon’s Heath. Recently, a meeting was held with planing officers to get informal advice on the draft plans. Continue reading
Oxfordshire Waste Consultation
Do you know that each household in Oxfordshire produces one tonne of waste each year? We have been amongst the best in the country at recycling and composting for a few years now, at about 60%, but recycling rates have started to drop in the county.
Residents are being given the chance to talk rubbish and recycling and tell Oxfordshire’s county, city and district councils how they can help them recycle more and create less waste.
This consultation will inform the review of the joint countywide waste strategy. This setsout shared priorities across Oxfordshire for waste and recycling until 2030, that will be approved by the Oxfordshire Environment Partnership over the summer. Then, each Continue reading

Kler Public Enquiry Decision
The Parish Council and SODC’s Planning Committee both objected to the proposed development of housing by Kler Group on the field at the corner of Fieldside and Didcot Road.
Kler appealed and a public enquiry was held in Didcot in November 2017. After four days of arguments the inspector had the final decision on whether the development would be given consent or not.
Despite all the efforts of the Parish Council and SODC’s barrister the housing development has been given outline consent together with full consent for a new access off Didcot Road.
