Parish Council Comings and Goings

Long Wittenham Parish Council has recruited a new member – but has lost a councillor. The new recruit is Sally Duff who replaces Annie Eccles who has left the council after two years because of increasing family demands.

Sally, who lives in the High Street, is married to Mike Duff. She spent eight years as secretary at the village primary school and worked for a local authority before joining the school. She has since retired.

Villagers Reap Rewards at Apple Day Bonanza

Villagers reaped the rewards of a bumper apple crop when the fruit was crushed into drinkable juice at the first Long Wittenham Apple Day event.

Organized by the Wittenham Warriors charity fund raising group Apple Day attracted more than 200 people to the Sylva Foundation’s Wood Centre.

The event on 8th October also launched the Community Orchard which will contain 55 fruit and nut trees. The orchard is part of a grander scheme being developed by the Sylva Foundation to create a new forest with more than 30 different species such as oak, beech, birch and lime. Continue reading

Neighbourhood Plan Update

The leader of South Oxfordshire District Council John Cotton says he’ll examine Long Wittenham Parish Council’s proposed Neighbourhood Plan in a bid to un-lock the proposal which have come to a standstill with planning officers.

A referendum on the NP was planned for this autumn but feedback from the district council said some of the policies needed amendment to ensure they were robust and could stand up to scrutiny if challenged.

These amendments will not change the core policy of the Plan to get additional community facilities in return for some new housing. As soon as the Plan is re-drafted it will be presented at another village meeting. Continue reading

Kler Planning Application – Comments Deadline

Please note that the deadline for new responses to the amendments made by Kler to their original planning application for up to 36 houses on the field on the corner of the Didcot Road and Fieldside is 6th October 2016.

In summary the amendments submitted on 8th September are:

(1) A reduction in the amount of hedge along the Didcot Road that will have to be removed and a statement that the site’s tree cover will be maintained.

(2) A significant change to the proposed layout of the site from that in the original plan in an attempt to deal with comments made by the Vale of White Horse’s Landscape Officer Continue reading

Earth Trust Planning Application

The consultation period for the Earth Trust’s planning application for major changes to their site at Sires Hill is underway.  The plans include the creation of a new access track from Sires Hill and the formation of new car parking areas, erection of a new skills and learning building, erection of an amphitheatre, conversion of existing office to cafe (with small farm shop), conversion of existing learning barn to office space, erection of three new barns, erection of replica roundhouses, all associated structures, landscaping, drainage and earthworks.
