Parish Path Warden Wanted

Would you like to volunteer to be a Parish Path Warden (PPW) for the parish of Long Wittenham?

Oxfordshire Area Ramblers, the Oxford Fieldpaths Society and the Countryside Access Team (CAT) of  Oxfordshire County Council are working together to develop a network of PPWs throughout the County.  To date, about 80% of the County’s 320 parishes now have a PPW in place.  The main purpose of a PPW is to walk the footpaths in his or her parish on a regular basis, equipped with a pair of secateurs to trim away any vegetation that is impeding the footpaths, particularly at stiles, gates and bridges.  The PPW also reports to the CAT any serious and less-serious problems affecting the footpaths so that the information can go onto the CAT’s database Continue reading

Planning Application – Fieldside Track

The planning application for the building of 36 houses on the field at the corner of Fieldside track and the Didcot Road is now with the South Oxfordshire District Council.

This is the plan which was presented by Cerda Planning at The Plough on 10th March.

Children’s Royal Tea Party – 11th June

20160611_Childrens_Royal_PartyAll children who live or who are grandchildren to those who live or go to school or pre-school in the Wittenham villages are invited to a very special tea party on 11th June to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday.

Join us for 90 fun-filled minutes celebrating 90 years in The Royal Gardens of The Plough.

If you would like to help in making this event a success please do get in touch.  We need volunteers to help set-up/clear away, bake cakes, help with the games and lots more.

Police & Crime Commissioner Election

Watch Your Speed

Police carried out speed checks last Wednesday morning (27th April) at the entrance to Long Wittenham between 7:30 and 8:20.  Equipment was set up just outside Lower Farm at the start of the 30mph zone to monitor traffic coming into the village from the direction of Clifton Hampden.  During this time seventy-three vehicles travelled through.  Twelve vehicles exceeded 35mph with the highest reading being 39mph.  The vehicles will be added to the police speedwatch database and drivers sent warning letters.  The police say they will be back again soon.

Pre-School Coffee Morning – 29th April

Long Wittenham Pre-School is holding a coffee morning on Friday of this week (29th April) between 9:15am and 10:30am at the Village Hall.  Please come along and help us raise some money for Help for Heroes through a ‘Bake for Heroes’.

The coffee morning is also a great chance for people to pop in to Pre-School and have an informal look at what we get up to.  If you know anyone with Pre-School-age children who might be interested in joining the Pre-School, please do invite them to come along.  All welcome.
