Street Lighting Review

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) has launched a review of its Street Lighting policy.

It is seeking residents’ views to inform the development of proposals for a part-night street lighting framework for the county and the wider review of its Street Lighting and Illuminated Assets policy.

Part-night lighting is an approach to reducing, or switching off, streetlighting in an area for part of the night.  It is intended to be used during the hours when the fewest people are using the streets, for example between midnight and 5am.

The council is conscious of the potential impacts on a wide range of communities across Oxfordshire and it has announced a series of workshops to provide information for residents.  The workshops are tailored to different groups, and you are encouraged to register for the session that is most relevant to you.

I worry that the times it is proposed to turn off the lights is just the time that people up to no good are about planning their robberies.
I am aware that this is yet another cost cutting act disguised as a consultation.
Having just received another inflated Council Tax bill I wonder what we are actually getting for the money paid?
I strongly object to this proposal .

If the object is to save money try turning off the lights during daylight hours. I drove from Little Wittenham to Long Wittenham at 11am this morning and a light was on. Why?
