A huge thank you to the organisers of the inaugural Long Wittenham Big Picnic Lunch which took place at Bodkins Field yesterday afternoon. A good turn out of approximately one hundred and fifty villagers and fine weather made it a great success and a splendid time was had by all.
The event was made possible by the participation of a number of village organisations including the Athletics Club, the WI, the Pre-school, the Primary School PTA, the Parochial Church Council, the Parish Council, the Friends of St Mary’s, Wittenham Bell Ringers, the History Group, Good Neighbours Group and the Lunch Club.
The Roke and Benson Brass Band provided entertainment throughout the afternoon and there were various games and challenges which kept families amused.
It is hoped that this is only the first of what will become a regular event to bring the village together to promote community, friendship and fun.
