Our Associate Vicar David Haylett has informed us that it has been reported that both Garsington and Cuddesdon churches have been visited by thieves who have removed the lead roofs. In the case of Garsington, apparently heavy lifting gear was moved into the churchyard.
He asks residents to be vigilant in case the thieves come to visit Long and Little Wittenham. In our case, they will be unlucky because the lead was removed some thirty-five years ago because it leaked badly, and the roof is now stainless steel sheet and virtually worthless.
