More Buses to Didcot

Long Wittenham is to get an additional bus service starting on Monday 2nd December.  And on Wednesdays, passengers will have a second bus giving them more time in the town.

For the last six months, the service by Going Forward Buses has been running a Wednesday morning service to Didcot.  Now the Goring-based company wants to expand, encouraged by its growing popularity.

The Didcot service on Monday and Wednesday will stop at Long Wittenham at 10:22 and arrive at the Didcot Orchard Centre at 10:37.  On Mondays, the return bus leaves Didcot at 12:56 and arrives back in Long Wittenham at 13:17.  On Wednesdays, it leaves at 12:42 and arrives in Long Wittenham at 13:00.

On Wednesdays there will be an extra service stopping at Long Wittenham at 13:42 and arriving at the Orchard Centre at 14:00.  There will be an additional return bus leaving at 14:15, arriving back in Long Wittenham at 14:34.

Going Forward Buses Managing Director Mike Ward said: “We have been encouraged by the take-up from the public to our services and so we have decided to provide an extra service on Mondays.  It is important however that the public continues to support the services.  Remember: ‘Use us – don’t lose us’.”

The not-for-profit company is celebrating its second birthday in January.  It took over many of the services which had been helped with subsidies from Oxfordshire County Council.  But the local authority was forced to cut back on spending in a national government-enforced austerity drive in 2016.

The bus company is also appealing for volunteers to help with publicity in the form of “ambassadors” in each community to spread the word and post timetables.  Anyone who can help should get in touch with the bus company.
