Residents may have noticed that the hedge along the front of Bodkin’s Field on Northfield Lane has undergone substantial work. Parish Councillor Steve Brown explains what’s been done:
“Following the very successful upgrade of the play equipment at Bodkins Field, which was organised for the Parish Council by Catherine Harrison, it was very noticeable that the hedge needed attention to bring it back under control.
Parish Councillor Sally Duff knew of some part-time hedge layers who had done work around the village and for the Earth Trust and they gave us an estimate for the work.
At about the same time our District Councillor, Sue Lawson, advised the Parish Council that she has a personal grant budget and is able to give small sums to local community projects, and so the council applied for a grant to sort out the hedge and put in a new gate for the play area.
We were successful with our application and the grant will cover 60% of the total costs.
The hedge layers were thwarted by the “Beast from the East” and had to delay starting work until this Autumn. However the Athletics Club organised some preliminary cutting back during the Summer and the hedge layers returned in October.
The Parish Council will now be arranging for the gate to the play area to be installed in January so that everything is neat and tidy for the New Year.”
