The Parish Council has a new clerk. He is Martin Elliff who takes over from Rhonda Hinson who was clerk for more than four years.
Martin was the council’s vice-chairman and his decision to resign as councillor and take on the new role as clerk on a voluntary basis for twelve months means that the council is now down to five councillors – two short of its statutory number.
After the August “holiday” the council will meet this evening (7.30pm in the village hall) when councillors will ratify Martin’s appointment and seek a new vice-chairman to replace him.
The make-up of the council is: Gordon Rogers (chairman), Steve Brown who leads for the council on the Community Hub development, Peter Rose who heads the Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) Steering Committee, Sally Duff who is in charge of social developments in the village, and Liz Yuille who joined the council earlier this year.
Mr Rogers thanked Mrs Hinson for her hard work over the last four years and said she would be a hard act to follow. But he said the council was confident in Mr Elliff’s ability to take the council forward.
Mr Rogers called on villagers to consider joining the parish council and have a say on how Long Wittenham will develop in the next two to three years.
