New Transport Option for Didcot Area

A new private transport service has arrived in Long Wittenham and district.  Called Driving Miss Daisy, it says it provides a much needed and valued local service which bridges the gap in the market between taxis, public transport and voluntary agencies.

Driving Miss Daisy companion drivers collect people from their door, drive them to their destination, provide help, and take passengers home again.  The service offers day trips, shopping trips, hospital and health appointments, airport runs, local and long distance transport journeys.  All drivers are licensed, safety checked (DBS, the Home office Disclosure and Baring Service) and trained in First Aid.

The service says it helps pensioners who want to maintain their independence, parents needing help taking children to and from after school activities, groups who need to take people to and from appointments, and people who don’t drive.

Driving Miss Daisy began in New Zealand and has been operating in the UK for six years. The service, which currently has three staff in Didcot, plans to expand in Oxfordshire.  The service has to be pre-booked.  Prices are similar to taxi fares.
