what3words Location App

The Parish Council has been asked to promote the use of the what3words App.

what3words is the simplest way to talk about location.  Street addresses were not designed for 2020.  They are not accurate enough to specify precise locations, such as building entrances, and do not exist for parks and many rural areas.  This makes it hard to find places and prevents people from describing exactly where help is needed in an emergency.

That’s why what3words was created.  The world has been into three metre squares and each square has been given a unique combination of three words.  It’s the easiest way to find and share exact locations.  Most emergency services accept what3words locations.

To find out more, and to download the free app to allow you find your what3words location on your mobile phone, go to the what3words website.

I’ve been using W3W for years and it’s absolutely great. Our post often goes to the wrong address becasue there are two “no. 3’s” on our road! W3W allows me to specify exactly where we are. It’s also very easy to ‘share’ this location into a SatNav app such as Google Maps or Waze allowing people to navigate to you just by clicking on a link you can send them.

NB. All squares have randomly allocated words, just check the full length of your driveway, for exmaple, to find the combination of words you like the best!
