Last Friday 27th June, on a beautiful sunny afternoon, the Parish Council was delighted to officially open the new children’s playground at Acklings.
Over thirty children with their families turned up to see Anthi Michellis, aged six and daughter of the project designer, cut the ribbon. The children swarmed over the area, testing out the new equipment which cost almost £100k to build.
The highlight for them all was the new zip wire. The new play area is a great addition to the pump track on the site, built by parents two years ago.
The new playground had been developed by the Parish Council over the previous two years. It complements the Bodkins play area at the other end of the village and includes a zip wire and some challenging equipment for older children. There are social areas and a plan for tree planting for shade later in the year. The development was made possible by grants from FCC Communities Fund and South Oxfordshire District Council, contributing almost 100% of the total cost.
Parish Councillor Peter Rose said “I would like to thank all the people in addition to the Parish Council who contributed to the project, including local businesses: PMS Oxford builders who provided topsoil and Logs Unlimited who provided logs for seating. I would also especially like to thank Claire Michellis, a landscape architect, and resident who advised on design and helped to oversee the project.”
“We look forward to generations of village children using these facilities for years to come.”
