Big Lunch Update

Members of village groups attended a meeting on Monday 26th November at the Athletics Club to plan for the village Big Lunch which is lined up for Sunday 30th June next year on Bodkin’s Field.

The Wittenham Big Lunch will be an inclusive event for everyone to celebrate our whole community and also the centenary of the Womens’ Institute in Oxfordshire and the formation of the Wittenham branch of the WI seventy years ago.

Organisations represented at the meeting, who will become “Big Lunch Champions”, included the WI, the Athletics Club, the Good Neighbours Group, Lunch Club, the Primary School Parents Association, the Wittenham Bell Ringers, the Friends of St Mary’s and the Parish Council.  Others have already expressed a wish to be involved.

Every resident will be invited to take part in the ticketed event which will be in the form of a simple picnic-style “bring and share” lunch, maybe with a brass band and an Athletics Club versus Village football match to follow, and a variety of family-orientated games, together with a family Treasure Hunt and a game of “Human Bingo”.

Village groups who were not present at the meeting can still get involved and are warmly encouraged to do so, so that everyone in the community is represented.  Another meeting is scheduled for Monday 28th January 2019 at 7.30pm at the Clubhouse on Bodkins Field.
