Community Hub Meeting – Thursday 30th March

The development of the Long Wittenham Neighbourhood Plan is entering it’s final phase and it is hoped that it will be adopted within the next few months.  It is time to start the next stage and the Parish Council and their chosen developer, Thomas Homes, have been working hard on plans for the new ‘Community Hub’.  They hope to submit the planning application to South Oxfordshire District Council in early Summer and they want the views of residents about what it should include, with particular reference to usage, design and facilities.  Should there be an indoor sports area?  Should there be a stage for musical and theatrical performances?  What about an outdoor area to use in the summer?

There will be a meeting in the Village Hall on Thursday 30th March at 7:30pm and Chris Brotherton of Thomas Homes will be there to hear residents’ ideas.

If you can’t make the meeting, you can send your ideas and questions to

  1. I was recently at a function at the new village hall at Bletchingdon. It’s an impressive development, with an adjoining Primary School, and some car parking. I guess there were over one hundred people present, and the car parking extended outside well outside the allotted space, possibly because of visitors from beyond the village.
I believe it would be of interest and use for the Parish Council and/or the developer to visit.
Please accept my apologies for absence on the 30th, I am committed elsewhere.

Dear Peter. Thanks for your helpful comments. Several of the PC/Steering Group visited the village hall at Sandford on Thames and found that very helpful. Also Peter Rose and I had a guided tour of the relatively new school at Nettlebed.
I will see if I can get over to Bletchingdon and have a look at what they have done. If not I will certainly pass on your thoughts to our developer especially about the parking needs.
    Many thanks. Steve Brown
