Residents of villages within the Didcot Garden Town area, are invited to the first ever Garden Party which kicks off this coming weekend.
The ‘town square’ outside Cornerstone Arts Centre will be transformed into town centre garden for the duration of the Summer, with grass, beanbags, deckchairs and other relaxing seating for visitors to come along, chill out, take part in activities or just soak up the party atmosphere.
A wide range of fun Summer events for all ages will take place from 24th July and every weekend all the way through the school holidays. Cornerstone’s party lawn will be the focus of the events, but lots of exciting things will be happening at other locations across the town too.
The Summer long party is a Didcot Garden Town event hosted by South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils.
Visitors will be able to grab some food and refreshments at Nourish, Cornerstone’s café bar, and the art centre’s gallery will also be hosting a range of arts and crafts activities and exhibitions.
The party gets going every Saturday at 11am until 4th September, and each weekend has a different theme packed with a range of fun, interactive and engaging entertainment. Among the activities set to launch the garden party on Saturday 24th July will be a range of outdoor games, an exciting puppet show, a comedy club for children, a performance of The Three Musketeers and a bunting workshop.
Themes for the weekend events will be:
24th – 25th July: Garden Party opening weekend
31st July – 1st August: Young People
7th – 8th August: Environment and Nature
14th – 15th August: Circus and Dance
21st -22nd August: Science
28th – 29th August: Heritage and Stories
4th September: Get Involved
The themes have been chosen as a vision for the garden town, to build stronger communities and embrace the culture, art and leisure opportunities available in and around Didcot now and in the future.
The other locations the councils will be taking the party to over the summer include Edmunds Park, Boundary Park and Ladygrove.
