Waste Collection Changes

From next week (10th October), there will be changes to some waste collection routes in South Oxfordshire to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Biffa has written to all householders whose collections will be altered with specific details of how the changes will affect them. These letters should have arrived by the end of September.

South Oxfordshire District Council has set up a web page containing more information about the changes with an online look-up function for people to type in their post code to find out if their collection details will be changing and if so, how it will affect them:

HMS Pinafore

Opera lovers will remember Opera Anywhere’s much acclaimed  performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado in 2019 and 2021 They are returning to Long Wittenham to perform Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore at St Mary’s Church at 7:30pm on Saturday 12th November. Firework Night

Long Wittenham Athletics Club has announced that it will be hosting this year’s Firework Night at Bodkins Sports Field.

It will take place on Friday 4th November.  Fireworks will start at 6:45pm with a bonfire at 7:15pm.

Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for under 16s.  There is a family of 4 ticket at £12. Continue reading

Pick a Pumpkin Family Event

Earth Trust has asked the Parish Council to publicize its special Autumn Event “Pumpkin Patch: Pick a Pumpkin, Explore our Maize Maze”.

It will take place from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October at Earth Trust Centre.  Alongside the opportunity to get to grips with gourds of all kinds, visitors can explore a maize maze and enjoy refreshments at a pop-up café run by the Wallingford restaurant 5 Little Pigs. Continue reading

Road Closure – Sires Hill

The Parish Council has been advised by the Network Management team at Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) of a temporary emergency closure of Sires Hill whilst leak repair works are carried out.

Pendon Museum has been approached by some people from the village about the use of the museum as a local resource.

The idea of a pop-up café has been mentioned and this is something that the museum would really love to support but it needs volunteers to help make it happen.

Secondary School Applications

Parents and guardians can now apply for their year six child to attend a secondary school for September 2023.

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) is encouraging parents and guardians to list four preferences on their application.  This does not make it less likely that their first preference will be offered, but it does reduce the risk of all preferences being unsuccessful and children being allocated a place at a school that is not named on their list.
