The Parish Council has been advised by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) of a new planning application within the village.

The application at Northfields Farm, Long Wittenham, is for a new agricultural lean-to building, which will be used to store hay, machinery and as a lambing shed, during the lambing period.

Spring Bulbs

Following on from the spectacular Daffodil display in the village last Spring, the Parish Council is once again providing bulbs for residents to plant in their front gardens or grass verges.

New Parish Councillor

The Parish Council has a new member.  Ron Carter was co-opted on to the council at its last meeting on 11th November.

Ron has lived at his home on Didcot Road for the last fifty-two years along with his late wife Dorothy.  They were married for forty-eight years.  Both Ron and Dorothy went to the village school and he went on to complete his education at St. Birinus School in Didcot. Continue reading

Long Wittenham War Dead Remembered

Long Wittenham remembered its First World War dead on 11th November at the village war memorial to commemorate Armistice Day 1918.  Fourteen soldiers from the village lost their lives in war zones in France and Palestine or died from wounds.

Pupils from the Primary School took part in the ceremony.  They read the names of the roll of honour and brief biographies of some of those named on the stone memorial.  Small wooden crosses were laid in the grass surrounding the memorial. Continue reading

Tree Planting on Fieldside

Residents may have noticed that trees have recently appeared on Fieldside track.

When the Vanderbilt housing development was proposed, there were concerns that it would spoil the rural feel of this popular walking route.  There was also concern that the track might be used as overflow parking for the estate.

20mph Speed Limit

The Parish Council has been advised that, following the recent consultation, Oxfordshire County Council’s proposal to implement a 20mph speed limit throughout the village will be presented at the Cabinet Member for Highway Management decisions meeting on Thursday 18th November 2021 (at 10am).
