Produce Show

More than one hundred people attended the Village Produce Show last Saturday (11th September) at St Mary’s Church.  The vicar, the Revd. Paul Wignall, welcomed villagers and said: “It’s good to see so many people back again after a long spell away because of the pandemic.  We look forward to seeing you again at future church events”.

The show stimulated both children and adults to get their green fingers moving again, producing vegetables, fruit, flowers, preserves and cakes. Continue reading

Statement of Community Involvement

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils are preparing a joint Statement of Community Involvement (SCI), that sets out how they will consult on planning applications and planning policy, including the joint Local Plan.

SODC Garden Waste Meeting

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) will be holding an extraordinary full council meeting to discuss the issue of the garden waste service, which is currently suspended.

The meeting will take place on Friday 24th September at 2pm at the council offices at 135 Eastern Avenue, Milton Park.

IF Oxford Science and Ideas Festival

The Parish Council has been asked to promote IF Oxford, the city’s science and ideas Festival, which returns in October with a mix of 100 in-person and digital events for all ages.

With a wide range of topics from the chemistry of cooking to stories of animal migration, and advances in medical technology to the science of whisky distilling, there will be something to appeal to everyone.

Temporary Closure of The Road Between Long Wittenham and The Barley Mow

The Parish Council has just been informed by Oxfordshire County Council Highways of the emergency temporary closure of the road between Long Wittenham and the Barley Mow.

A temporary Emergency Notice (see below) is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate from 9th September 2021.  The anticipated completion date is 13th September 2021 (full closure 24hrs each day). Continue reading

20mph Speed Limit Consultation

Oxfordshire County Council is seeking the views of residents on the proposal to introduce a 20mph speed limit throughout the village.

The proposals are being put forward following road safety concerns raised by the Parish Council and will see a reduction of the existing 30mph speed limit leading out to points on Didcot Road, Little Wittenham Road, and Long Wittenham Road.  The existing 30mph speed limits will remain on Sires Hill and partly on Long Wittenham Road. Libraries Update

Oxfordshire County Council has announced that the county’s libraries will return to pre-pandemic opening hours from today (6th September).

During the pandemic, hours were reduced to allow additional safety measures to be monitored by staff.  As these have been eased over the past few months, evening and Saturday opening hours can be restored.
