Councillor Community Grant Scheme

A new round of funding is now open to help local charities and organisations in South Oxfordshire.  Earlier this year, South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) awarded £165,000 worth of grants to 96 projects across the district.

As a part of the Councillor Community Grant scheme, every SODC Councillor has a budget of up to £5,000 to award to local projects that directly benefit residents in their ward.  Organisations who are ‘not-for-profit’ can now apply for grants Continue reading

Didcot Garden Party

Residents of villages within the Didcot Garden Town area, are invited to the first ever Garden Party which kicks off this coming weekend.

The ‘town square’ outside Cornerstone Arts Centre will be transformed into town centre garden for the duration of the Summer, with grass, beanbags, deckchairs and other relaxing seating for visitors to come along, chill out, take part in activities or just soak up the party atmosphere. Blandford Fly

A resident writes …

Please advise anyone walking around Wards Field, or by the Thames, to wear shoes and long trousers.  I was bitten on Thursday by a Blandford Fly.  I had never heard of this insect before.  The bite is a bit painful and would be horrible for children.  Its not  dangerous for most people but very unpleasant for several days.  Apparently, it’s a seasonal risk, usually in May or June, and there’s been a rise in incidents in Oxfordshire this year: Continue reading

Church Holiday Club

St Mary’s Church wants to offer children and families a holiday club this Summer, in the week beginning 22nd August.

The club will be held in the church and churchyard and it is hoped that a wide range of activities will be offered.

Footpath Plan Thwarted

A plan for a new footpath linking Long Wittenham and Clifton Hampden has been frustrated.

The idea came from Tom Bowtell, a former chairman of the Parish Council.  It would have used footpaths to the weir at the end of the Thames backwater, crossing over it to Clifton Hampden Cut Island, and linking from there to the Thames Path near Clifton Hampden. Continue reading

Pump Track Update

The Pump Track Team and the Parish Council are delighted to announce that the Pump Track has passed the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) inspection with flying colours.

Steve Brown from the team met with the inspector on Monday 12th July, who carried out a thorough inspection of the track.  She was impressed with the build and the fact that experienced riders had been involved from the outset.  She commented that not only was it a great track and that we had achieved a great Continue reading
