Burcot and Clifton Hampden Neighbourhood Plan

Burcot and Clifton Hampden Parish Council has unveiled details of its Neighbourhood Plan and would like to hear the public’s views.  The council says that the Plan will secure the future of the community and amenities in the face of the direct threat posed by the massive developments planned for Culham and Berinsfield.

Long Wittenham Christmas Trail

The village is being decorated for Christmas!  Forty houses will be displaying Christmas pictures or models during the month of December.  It is hoped that our children will enjoy walking round and discovering all the exhibits.

Oxford Zero Emission Zone Consultation

The final consultation for the proposed Oxford Zero Emission Zone (ZEZ) pilot has now opened and runs until midnight on Sunday 17th January.

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and Oxford City Council are asking for views from residents, businesses and visitors on a revised ZEZ pilot proposal after a similar consultation was paused in March 2020 because of the pandemic.

The Parish Council has put together a ‘Welcome Pack’ for new residents to help them to settle into our community as quickly as possible.

District Councillor Grants

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has announced that district councillor community grants are now available.  Our councillor, Sam Casey-Rerhaye, has £5,000 to share between the seven parishes in her ward.

New Bus Service to Didcot

A new bus service is coming to Long Wittenham and Clifton Hampden.  From 4th January, Thames Travel will be operating a service linking Didcot with the Culham Science Centre and Berinsfield.  There will be seven buses a day, five days a week, Mondays to Fridays.

Bus Service 95 runs between Didcot Station and Culham Science Centre, stopping at the Orchard Centre, Ladygrove shops, The Plough and Clifton Hampden Post Office.  Service 95B operates between Didcot and Berinsfield and will also call at Long Wittenham and Continue reading

Death of an Intrepid Cyclist

Come rain, come shine, Roger Stone was a regular cyclist on most days between the village and Didcot.  But the familiar site of Roger on his bicycle is now a closed chapter.  He died recently at his home in Saxon’s Heath from pneumonia after suffering from cancer.  He was seventy-seven.

New ‘Gates’ for Little Wittenham Road

In a move to encourage drivers to reduce speed on Little Wittenham Road, the Parish Council has installed a pair of white ‘gates’ next to the 30mph signs.  It is hoped that they will remind drivers that they are entering a village environment and make them slow down.

At the November meeting of the council several residents living on or near the road voiced their concerns about speeding vehicles.  They said that since the Coronavirus lockdown measures were imposed, traffic on the road has significantly increased. Continue reading
