Speeding Signs

Several villagers have raised concerns about safety along a stretch of Little Wittenham Road and at the bend approaching the triangle in Northfield Lane where there is no path.  Some residents in Saxons Heath have also complained about the speed of vehicles.

In a move to try to improve safety, the Parish Council is installing anti-speeding signs along the grass verges approaching the village from Little Wittenham and on Saxons Heath.  The signs were designed by the primary school in a competition and have been Continue reading

Five Year Housing Land Supply

One of the main aims of the South Oxfordshire District Council’s (SODC) Local Plan is to ensure that housing development only happens where it’s suitable and sustainable.

As you may be aware, the Government requires the council to demonstrate that it has allocated enough housing land in the district to support development for five years.  This is known as the Five-Year Housing Land Supply.  If the council is not able to show this, then developers are more likely to submit Continue reading

Neighbourhood Plan Update

The Parish Council is hopeful that problems surrounding the delay to the Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) can be ironed out in time for a public referendum by May next year.

The NDP has been confronted by a number of frustrating hurdles in the last year, not least Historic England’s decision to schedule part of the land off Didcot Road, on which is it planned to build the Community Hub, as an Ancient Monument. Continue reading

Electricity Outages

Residents will be aware of the recent power cuts in the village.  The Parish Council has raised a complaint with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) on behalf of the village in order to establish the cause, as well as to obtain assurance that SSEN will endeavour to reduce these in the future.

SSEN has confirmed that the outages were the result of a fault with the main network.  It appears that it was caused by trees coming into contact with cables because of the recent high winds.  SSEN have a regular maintenance programme to reduce this type of fault, Continue reading
