Sires Hill Road Closure – 12th June

The Parish Council has been advised by the Traffic Regulations Team at Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) that it will be necessary to close the road at the corner of Didcot Road and Sires Hill in order to facilitate resurfacing carriageway and signage improving works.

The temporary closure and will operate from 12th June 2020 each night from 7:30pm to 6am, and the anticipated completion date is 16th June 2020.

Local NHS Heroes Update

We are pleased to report that the Local NHS Heroes Campaign was a huge success.  More than 4,000 individual items were processed and a total of 335 individual care packs were made up for Abingdon Hospital and the county’s ambulance teams.

Also benefitting were local community district nurses, occupational therapists and physios based at Wallingford Hospital.  A donation of over 1000 items was also made to the Oxford Health Charity to go into their own care packages for community Continue reading

Traffic Fears When Lockdown is Relaxed

A  group of district councillors is urging Oxfordshire County Council to take steps to reduce the risk of traffic volumes increasing, if and when the Coronavirus lockdown measures are eased.

Four councillors known as “Walking and Cycle Champions”, including Green councillor for the Wittenhams, Sam Casey-Rerhaye, have written to the county council calling on the authority to take a proactive review of measures following a dramatic drop in traffic levels during the lockdown. Cancer Consultations Available Via Telephone and Video

Doctors in Oxfordshire are urging people to get medical advice if they are worried about symptoms of cancer.

A recent national survey suggests getting Coronavirus or giving it to their family were among the top reasons that people would not come forward when they have cancer symptoms, along with fears that they could be a burden to the health service.

Praise for Communities in Virus Emergency

The Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary, Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP, has praised local councils and communities for their work during the Coronavirus pandemic.  He has also promised that more government cash will be on the way.

Recycling Collections Update

We reported here a few weeks ago that, owing to the Coronavirus crisis, South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) had suspended the collection of small electrical items, textiles and batteries along with the household waste.  SODC has announced that they are now providing this service again.  Waste recycling centres remain closed.
