Nativity – 16th December

This month’s film at the Long Wittenham Film Club at St Mary’s Church, next Monday 16th December at 1:45pm is Nativity, a feel-good Christmas film for the whole family.  Primary school teacher Paul has to produce a musical version of the Nativity.  The stakes are raised when he boasts that his ex-girlfriend Jennifer, a Hollywood producer, is coming to see his show with a view to turning it into a film.  It stars Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen.

New Drive to Reopen Local Stations

Campaigners seeking to reopen railway stations at Appleford and Culham on Sundays have called on candidates in the Wantage and Henley constituencies to back the move which is already supported by local parish councils.

The Appleford Rail Group wants Sunday services restored at both stations with a minimum of five trains each way.  On week days, campaigners are seeking an additional train in both directions in the evening, northwards between 18:00 – 20:00 Continue reading

Footpath and Drainage Improvements

Work has finished on restoring a section of public footpath between the western end of Fieldside and Saxons Heath.  Some of the path had narrowed because of encroachment from the adjacent field but now the full width of the path has been restored.

Children Design Speed Posters

Pupils from Long Wittenham Primary school are playing their part in the drive to cut vehicle speeds through the village.  More than seventy children took part in a painting competition to design distinctive posters urging drivers to reduce speed and stick to the 30mph restriction.

Head teacher Alison Bellingham and parish councillors Gordon Rogers, Steve Brown and Ian Penberth sifted through the drawings and chose eleven entries which will be reproduced on tough “dibond” material.  The posters will be fixed to wooden poles Continue reading
