Trading Standards advise that, if you do get approached by someone who calls at your home without invitation, to ask them firmly but politely to leave. The Conservative Party candidate, David Johnston, is the new MP for Long Wittenham. In yesterday’s General Election, he held the Wantage constituency with 34,085 votes and a 50.7% share of the vote.
Residents probably won’t need to be reminded that the General Election takes place today (Thursday 12th December) and the Village Hall will be open for voting between 7am and 10pm.

This month’s film at the Long Wittenham Film Club at St Mary’s Church, next Monday 16th December at 1:45pm is Nativity, a feel-good Christmas film for the whole family. Primary school teacher Paul has to produce a musical version of the Nativity. The stakes are raised when he boasts that his ex-girlfriend Jennifer, a Hollywood producer, is coming to see his show with a view to turning it into a film. It stars Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen.

Work has finished on restoring a section of public footpath between the western end of Fieldside and Saxons Heath. Some of the path had narrowed because of encroachment from the adjacent field but now the full width of the path has been restored.
Pupils from Long Wittenham Primary school are playing their part in the drive to cut vehicle speeds through the village.
