Bus Service Starts

The new once weekly bus service from Wallingford to Didcot operated by Going Forward Buses in Goring began yesterday.  Five passengers from the village joined the fourteen seater minibus.  Two people had joined the bus at Shillingford Hill Homes Park, three from Berinsfield and one passenger at Clifton Hampden.

The new Wednesday service for Long Wittenham has been welcomed by residents, particularly the elderly and those without transport.  The Parish Council has also praised it Continue reading

Waste And Recycling Collections

Residents are reminded that because of the Easter break, waste and recycling collections will change this week.

Green, food and garden waste bin collections will be a day later than usual on Friday.

Sewage Floods Properties Again

Twice within a week this month Long Wittenham resident Peter Surridge has come home to find his garden flooded with sewage.  And this is not the first time that Mr Surridge, who lives in Lay’s Courtyard towards the eastern end of High Street, has been swamped.  A similar flood occurred in April and December last year.

Long Wittenham Past

Compost Giveaway

Gardeners in the village will be please to hear that South Oxfordshire District Council’s free compost give-away is back!  This year’s event, giving away locally produced compost, is on Saturday 11th May between 9am and 11am at Milton Park overflow car park, Park Drive, Milton OX14 4SR (next to Allmakes Ltd).

Litter Pick Report

A stalwart team of residents, armed with bags, gloves and litter-picker sticks spent more than two hours last Saturday morning collecting rubbish which littered many parts of the village.  Plastic bottles, paper, and cardboard were the biggest offenders.

New Bus Service

A new bus service will soon be arriving in the village.  Going Forward Buses is introducing a Wallingford to Didcot service calling at Long Wittenham on Wednesdays starting on 24th April.  The return journey from Broadway in Didcot will be nearly two hours later.

The 15-seater mini-bus will leave The Plough at Long Wittenham at 10.11am arriving at the Tesco store in Didcot at 10.18.  Other stops are: Aldi (10.21), Broadway (10.23) and the Continue reading

Kler Appeal Update

Nearly one hundred and fifty residents have objected to the Kler Group’s plan to re-align parts of Didcot Road to facilitate the entrance to their housing development on the corner of Didcot Road and Fieldside.

A petition signed by one hundred and fifteen residents was sent to the planning inspectorate and a further thirty online protests were lodged. Continue reading
