Opera Anywhere is coming to Long Wittenham to perform Gilbert and Sullivan’s very popular comic opera The Pirates of Penzance for one night only at St Mary’s Church at 7:30 on Saturday 4th May. The show will be presented by the The Friends of St Mary’s, in aid of the church.

About two dozen people attended the Annual Parish Assembly on Thursday 14th March in the village hall at which representatives of village groups and organisations gave presentations on their activities during the last year and their plans for the future.
The meeting was opened by Gordon Rogers, Chairman of the Parish Council, who welcomed the speakers and residents, and talked about the main challenges for the council over the past year. Continue reading
It was announced in this week’s Government Spring Statement that the bid by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) for funding infrastructure to support the housing growth in the district has been successful and the county will receive funding from the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF).

The new £100,000 timber-framed extension providing toilet facilities at St. Mary’s church was opened by the Bishop of Dorchester, the Rt. Rev. Colin Fletcher, on the 8th March.
Bishop Colin blessed and dedicated the new extension to the north door at a special service in the church. The extension provides a disabled toilet and baby-changing facilities.
