Bank Holiday Bin Collections

Don’t forget that in the week following a bank holiday, there will be changes to South Oxfordshire District Council’s waste collections schedule.

There will be no waste collections on Bank Holiday Monday 28th May.  Bins will then be emptied one day later than usual for the rest of that week.  In South Oxfordshire, this is a grey bin and food waste bin collection week. Continue reading

New Pendon Website

Pendon Museum has launched a new website.  There are many new features to explore, including the library of 3D photographs and a description of a number of walks in the Vale of the White Horse that allow you to explore some of the actual buildings modelled at the museum.

Long Wittenham Man Wins Lottery

A village resident has won a prize in the weekly South Oxfordshire Charitable Lottery which started a few weeks ago.  The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, won £25 with his £1 ticket.  For each ticket he purchases, 50p goes to his nominated charity The Friends of St Mary’s, the village group that helps with the upkeep of the fabric of the church.

Parish Council Backs Fun Run

Long Wittenham Parish Council is giving financial support to the annual Fun Run and Walk which raises money for village projects.  The council has agreed to pay for medals and certificates and to provide insurance cover.

Last year the Run raised nearly £1,000 some of which went towards the new play equipment project in Bodkin’s Field and some to St Mary’s Church for help with the plan to build a new multi-access toilet. Continue reading

Artweeks in The Wittenhams

The Wittenhams are well represented in this year’s Oxfordshire Artweeks which runs from Saturday 19th to Monday 29th May inclusive.  There are about twenty artists showing in total at The Sylva Wood Centre and Claire Owen’s pottery studio in Long Wittenham, and The White Cottage and The Earth Trust in Little Wittenham.

Good Neighbours Birthday Bash

Long Wittenham Good Neighbours Group (GNG) celebrated its fourth birthday in early May with a special tea at the Dorchester Abbey tea rooms followed by a tour of the museum and abbey.

Steve Marsh, one of the group’s long-serving supporters who volunteers at the abbey, arranged the birthday celebration and the tea room laid on cream scones and homemade cakes.
