South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) is looking at the future of sports and leisure facilities in the district and wants to hear from the people who use them, now and in the future.

Compost Giveaway

South Oxfordshire District Council’s free compost give-away is back!  This year’s event, giving away locally produced compost, is on Saturday 14th April between 9am and 11am at Benson Parish Hall Car Park, Sunnyside, Benson, OX10 6LZ.

Extra Garden Waste Collection

Residents who are signed up for brown bin collections can put out twice as much garden waste during the week commencing 9th April.

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) are giving those who are part of the paid-for service the opportunity to put out the equivalent of one extra bin’s worth of garden waste (around three large bin bags).

Village Barn Dance

Tickets are now on sale for the Friends of St Mary’s Barn Dance at the Sylva Wood Centre on Saturday 21st April starting at 7:30pm.

Along with great music, provided by local band Witta’s Grove, and dancing, there will be a buffet and a donations bar.  All proceeds will be used to finance the building of new facilities at the church, so please support this event.

Shout Out Oxfordshire

BBC Radio Oxford is launching a new feature for local people who might like to make an appeal to its listeners.

“Shout Out Oxfordshire” will give community groups, clubs, charities, etc, the chance to make a 45 second appeal to listeners, free of charge, which will be repeated every day for at least a week, and go on the BBC Radio Oxford iPlayer for a month.  It could be used to ask for more members or volunteers, donations of items, skills or time, more people to use a community service, or something else, but not money.

Extraordinary Parish Council Meeting

There will be an extraordinary meeting of the parish council starting at 7:30pm on Thursday 12th April 2018 in the village hall to discuss the planning application by West Waddy and Lagan Homes to build twenty-nine houses on the field next to Bodkin’s.

This is a public meeting to hear the views of residents on the proposals.

SODC Charity Lottery Launches

Tickets for South Oxfordshire District Council’s new community lottery go on sale today (Tuesday 27th March).  The online SO Charitable Lottery raises funds for local voluntary and charitable groups.

Tickets cost £1 and have to be bought via the website.  The first draw will take place on 28th April and will then run weekly.  There is a one in fifty chance of winning a prize, with a jackpot of £25,000.  From each ticket bought, 60p will go to good causes and the local community.  The rest of the money will go to the prize fund and running costs – the council will not receive any of the proceeds.
