Residents who are signed up for brown bin collections can put out twice as much garden waste during one week this month.
South Oxfordshire District Council is giving those who are part of the paid-for service the opportunity to put out the equivalent of one extra bin’s worth of garden waste (around three large bin bags) during the week commencing 23rd October.
Residents should leave their extra garden waste out in bin liners or sacks beside their brown bins on their usual collection day during this week. Trade waste bags cannot be accepted.
Announcing the 2nd Annual Long Wittenham Village Apple Day at the Sylva Wood Centre on Saturday 21st October organised by Wittenham Warriors, hosted by the Sylva Foundation and including apple juicing, a tour of the Community Orchard and the launch of the Wittenham Bee Group.

About forty residents from Long Wittenham were present at the Didcot Civic Centre last evening where the South Oxfordshire District Council Planning Committee voted to reject Kler’s planning application for 36 houses on the field at the corner of the Didcot Road and Fieldside.
The committee’s decision is not the end of the matter however, as the application will now be subject to Kler’s appeal at the public enquiry scheduled for the 14th November, again at the Didcot Civic Centre, but it is hoped that SODC’s opinion will carry weight when the inspector considers the case.
The case against Kler’s plan was eloquently argued by Steve Brown on behalf of the parish council, Peter Rose as chair of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Committee and our district councillor Sue Lawson.
South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils have identified the need to build a significant number of new homes over the next 14 to 16 years.
The number of new homes needed, and the areas where they will be built, are detailed in the South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse Local Plans.
The two councils have published a draft Joint Housing Delivery Strategy. If adopted, this strategy will guide how the new homes are delivered and help to ensure that the types of homes provided meet the various needs of our communities. Continue reading
A reminder that the SODC Planning Committee will meet on Wednesday 27th September 2017 at 6pm at Didcot Civic Hall, Britwell Road, Didcot, OX11 7HN to discuss the Kler planning application for 36 houses on the field at the corner of the Didcot Road and Fieldside.
Speaking for the village will be Steve Brown, Peter Rose and our District Councillor, Sue Lawson.
One of the key issues in our objections is that we do not believe that safe access can be provided to and from the Kler site. Steve Brown, who has spent his professional career in local government highways departments will focus on this issue. Continue reading
As already announced, the public enquiry into Kler Group’s planning application for 36 houses on the field at the corner of the Didcot Road and Fieldside is scheduled for the 14th November at the Didcot Civic Centre in Britwell Road, Didcot.
As part of the process, the South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has appointed a barrister for the enquiry and he has asked the SODC Planning Committee what they would have decided if the matter had not been taken away from them.
The Planning Committee will therefore consider the application and make its opinion known at its meeting on 27th September. Its opinion will be crucial at the public enquiry and so it is important that it knows what the village thinks about Kler’s plans. Continue reading

Pendon Museum will be opening its doors for free entry for all residents in the village on Thursday 5th October from 3pm to 8pm (last entry 7:30pm).
The museum preserves the idyllic rural scene and transport of the 1920s and 1930s in a miniature form for all generations to enjoy.
There is much to see, from the pioneering Madder Valley Railway, through Pendon’s first complete model – Dartmoor Scene – to the breathtaking Vale Scene.
