Fullamoor Quarry Update
Creating a huge sand and gravel quarry on green belt land near Clifton Hampden will increase the risk of flooding along the Thames, the Environment Agency has warned. And other sites less likely to flood should be investigated .
Hills Quarry Products wants to develop land bordering the Thames over ten years, extracting 2.5m tonnes of sand and gravel. In addition Hills plans a concrete processing plant on site.
Once the quarry is exhausted the land would be restored and the area developed for public recreational use for sailing, boating, walking and angling. The county council is consulting Continue reading
100 Miles for 100 Books
A group of 8 Long Wittenham lunatics will be taking part in a 24 hour relay event called Endure24 over the weekend of the 10th/11th June with their aim being to run as many 5 mile laps of the all terrain circuit as possible over a 24 hour period.
The team led by Matt Clamp, also including Kerry Clamp, Jason Sherwood, Angela Green, Zoe Pepper and Vicky Mortimer are raising funds to assist in the desperately needed updating of the Long Wittenham School Library.

Ascension Day Service on The Clumps
The Bishop of Dorchester will be preaching and presiding at a Eucharist to celebrate Ascension Day at the top of Wittenham Clumps at 7:30pm this evening (25th May). All are welcome. The same service will also be offered in St Peter’s in Little Wittenham at the same time for those unable to climb the Clumps.
Company Boss Joins Council
Long Wittenham Parish Council has a new member. He’s Iain McRitchie and his appointment brings the number of councillors up to six – one short of the maximum of seven.
Iain and his wife Christine have lived in Westfield Road since 1999, with their four, now teenage, children. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, working in a range of senior roles for many years before setting up Earthwise Products Ltd in 2012.
Last year Iain and Christine bought Sharp’s Yard, near Bodkin’s Field. It is home to Earthwise Products Ltd and a small Engineering company Earthwise Trading Ltd, a wholesaler and retailer of reusable products. In addition, a new company Earthwise Continue reading

Temporary Road Closure – Clifton Hampden – 12th-13th June
A temporary road closure of a section of High Street, Clifton Hampden, including the bridge, will operate from 12th June 2017 while underground cabling works are carried out. The anticipated completion date is 13th June 2017.
Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for those frontages within the closure area, subject to the progress of the works and liaison with the works supervisor.

Hub Plans Revealed
More than 90 people from Long Wittenham attended an exhibition to examine and comment on plans for the village’s proposed community hub. The project includes a new school, pre-school, village hall, play and sports area, market and affordable homes and parking. The whole project will be self-funding with profits from the market housing going back into funding all the community facilities. Following a series of public meetings during the last 18 months the parish council’s chosen developer Thomas Homes has been working on plans and the proposals were unveiled at a drop-in evening at The Plough pub on Thursday evening 11th May.
