Bus Service Update

Long Wittenham’s only bus service has come to the end of the road – victim of Oxfordshire County Council’s spending cuts. Now the parish council is seeking public opinion as to whether it’s feasible to pursue an alternative service.

Elderly and young people without a car have to rely on family and friends to get them into Didcot for shopping, medical and social needs.

Little Wittenham Road Closure – Dates changed

Please note that the closure of the road leading to St. Peters Church in Little Wittenham (and ‘No Waiting’ restrictions) to facilitate carriageway maintenance works, previously announced to start on 1st August 2016 for 5 days, has been re-scheduled to take place from 15th August 2016.

Kler Planning Application Update

Steve Brown, Chairman of the Long Wittenham Parish Council writes …

There is a current planning application for up to 36 houses on the field at the Didcot Road corner of Fieldside.  This application has been made on behalf of developers Kler.  The Parish Council and approximately 80 residents have formally objected to SODC.

New Vicar Licensing Service – 8th August 2016

All parishioners in The Bridge Group of Churches are invited to a service to mark the new ministry of The Reverend Michael Lakey in the Dorchester Team with the Right Reverend Colin Fletcher, Bishop of Dorchester and the Venerable Judy French, Archdeacon of Dorchester on Monday 8th August 2016 at 7.30pm at Dorchester Abbey.

Refreshments will be provided in the Abbey.

Road Closure – Clifton Hampden, High Street – 11th-18th August (21:00–06:00)

Please note that a temporary road closure will apply to a section of the road from Long Wittenham to Clifton Hampden whilst essential BT cabling works are carried out.

The temporary closure and will operate from 11 August 2016 for 7 nights (21:00–06:00).

Mobile Library to cease in September

It has been announced that the mobile library service in Oxfordshire will cease to operate in September 2016.  This decision was taken following extensive public consultation on proposals to make huge financial savings across all county council services.

The last round of visits will begin on Monday 5 September 2016. The final day of the service will be Friday 16 September 2016.
