Churchgoers will have noticed that the sundial on the side of the tower at St Mary’s Church has been restored.
The sundial is believed to have been installed in 1830 and it has been restored on several occasions since then, the last time being in 1993.
The restoration was funded by The Friends of St Mary’s and was undertaken by Richard Noviss, a sculptor and stonemason based in Hook Norton. Continue reading

The Parish Council has been advised that the long awaited remedial work to the road narrowing on Didcot Road is due to start on 24th October. It is expected to be completed on 28th October and the road will be closed each night from 10pm to 6am.
The road hump at the narrowing is too low and the slopes too flat, so it has to be removed and relaid to the proper height with steeper ramps. This should make Continue reading
Long Wittenham Local History Group will be meeting on Monday 17th October in the Village Hall at 8pm.
There will be an illustrated talk: “A Short History of Long Wittenham”.

From next week (10th October), there will be changes to some waste collection routes in South Oxfordshire to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Biffa has written to all householders whose collections will be altered with specific details of how the changes will affect them. These letters should have arrived by the end of September.
South Oxfordshire District Council has set up a web page containing more information about the changes with an online look-up function for people to type in their post code to find out if their collection details will be changing and if so, how it will affect them:
Opera lovers will remember Opera Anywhere’s much acclaimed performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado in 2019 and 2021.
