The November meeting of the village history group will be on Monday 21st November at 8pm in the Village Hall.
The speaker will be Jane Card with a colourful talk: “When is a crest not a crest? When it’s a coat of arms. – A little local heraldry!”

The Parish Council has been informed by Oxfordshire County Council Highways that the speed surveys scheduled to start tomorrow (16th November) will take place on the Little Wittenham Road and on the road between the village and Clifton Hampden.
These surveys are designed to determine if the current speed limits on these roads near the village can be extended beyond their current boundaries. Continue reading
More than forty people gathered at the village war memorial at 11am on Remembrance Day to honour fourteen men who gave their lives in the First World War.
Children from the primary school paid tribute to five of the soldiers named on the war memorial by reading out short histories of the men. The service was taken by the vicar of Long Wittenham, Revd Canon Paul Wignall. Continue reading
The Parish Council has been advised by the Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) Traffic and Road Safety Team, that the speed survey equipment to monitor the effect of the 20mph speed limit in the village will be installed on 16th November.
The equipment is expected to be in place for about a week. The data will be passed to OCC about ten days after the equipment is collected, following which, the Continue reading
The village primary school will be holding its Christmas Fayre on Saturday 3rd December between 11am and 2pm.
There will be Santa’s grotto, a raffle with many great prizes, Christmas stalls, games, Christmas activities, food and refreshments, and much, much more. Continue reading
The annual village fireworks night was held last week but with a different organiser and location from previous years.
It took place on Friday 4th November at the home of Long Wittenham Athletics Club at Bodkin’s Field with a display of fireworks followed by a bonfire. An estimated crowd of four to five hundred people attended. Continue reading

John Stimson, the former chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) and member of Long Wittenham Parish Council, has died. He was eighty-three and had been suffering from cancer and dementia for the last twelve months.
