In addition to the traffic speed check which is scheduled to take place in the near future, following the reduction of the village speed limit from 30 to 20mph, the Parish Council is also reviving a Community Speedwatch group, who will be able to perform regular and ongoing speed checks on traffic through the village.
Community Speedwatch is a national initiative where proactive members of local communities join with the support and supervision of their local police to record details of speeding vehicles using approved detection devices. Registered keepers of vehicles exceeding the speed limit are contacted – initially with a letter explaining the potential risks and consequences of their dangerous behaviour. Repeat offenders will receive a visit from the local police, irrespective of where they live. More information can be found on the Community Speedwatch website.
The Parish Council looking for volunteers to join the group. If you are interested and would like to join, you will need to pass the on-line training (see the above link). David Corney is the Community Speedwatch coordinator for the village. If you would like to be part of the group, please email David at: david.r.corney@gmail.com for more information.
