Nearly one hundred and fifty residents have objected to the Kler Group’s plan to re-align parts of Didcot Road to facilitate the entrance to their housing development on the corner of Didcot Road and Fieldside.
A petition signed by one hundred and fifteen residents was sent to the planning inspectorate and a further thirty online protests were lodged.
South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee rejected the plan last November but in March, Kler Group appealed the decision. The public consultation on the appeal closed on 10th April.
Long Wittenham Parish Council is opposed to the plan and its case has been bolstered by a petition signed by one hundred and fifteen residents in Didcot Road, Saxons Heath, Three Poplars Park and parts of High Street.
Names were gathered by Donna King from Saxons Heath and Debbie Steele who lives in Didcot Road and whose home would see traffic moving closer if the road re-alignment plan is approved.
Donna King said: “This proposal to re-shape part of Didcot Road is totally unacceptable. Traffic on this busy road would pass closer to some homes, bringing noise and pollution. The roadworks would cause a lot of disruption and a re-designed road lay out would spoil the rural character of the approach to Long Wittenham.”
The appeal will now be considered by the planning inspectorate in Bristol. A decision is expected in July.
