Is the road to Little Wittenham also closed? We have signs here put up saying it is…………..

  2. Andrew Lea says:

The road through Little Wittenham has been closed this week for verge repairs up towards Hill Farm. AFAIK that work should be completed by the end of today.

  3. Jane May says:

Thanks, folks. The motto of South Oxfordshire should be “You can`t get there from here”.

  4. Ann Tomline says:

Just come through over the bridge only half the road closed

The Parish Council has now been advised that the works are for emergency cabling and clearing blockages, and that further information may be obtained by contacting Paul Moore of FreeFlow TM on 07971 691755 quoting reference T11447(em)/MR.

  6. Gillian Byrne says:

    Really, no notice period???
    Bad!!

  7. David Haylett says:

We drove from LW to the Barley Mow car park at 4pm to see if the road was underwater, it wasn’t, neither was there any sign anywhere of a closure!!!!! Traffic was flowing freely in both directions!!!! I have no faith in “Road Closed” signs whatsoever, they are so often wrong.

  8. Liz Nightingale says:

    Oh I see!
“The Parish Council has now been advised that the works are for emergency cabling and clearing blockages”.
What a pity – I had hoped the horrendous holes in this road were being repaired. :_(

Yep. The pothole heading towards Clifton Hampden just before the old boat house must be one of the worst in Oxfordshire at the moment – with plenty of competition.

  9. Chris Waites says:

The road isn’t actually closed, though. You’d think someone might walk/cycle/drive up and just check before posting on here and potentially dozens of people to drive kilometres out of their way.

  10. Martin Goodall says:

I just found this on the Oxford Mail website:

    9:21am
The High Street between Long Wittenham and Clifton Hampden – both ways from A415 Abingdon Road to Little Wittenham Road – over and adjacent to the River Thames is closed due to flooding.

[An accompanying map shows a long section closed both over Clifton Hampden Bridge and between the Barley Mow car park and the approach to Long Wittenham.]

Any more accurate knowledge during the day would be helpful, as I was hoping to get to Long Wittenham by that route this evening.
