Plans to Make 20mph the New 30mph in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet will decide on 19th October whether to endorse plans to make it simpler to lower speeds to 20mph as part of its aspiration to see limits lowered on most urban areas and village streets in places where it is suitable and supported by residents.

Planning Application

The Parish Council has been advised by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) of a new planning application within the village.

The application, at Elm Close, High Street, Long Wittenham, is to raise the existing garage roof by 500mm, and adding an external staircase and covered canopy.

20mph Speed Limit Consultation

A reminder that Oxfordshire County Council’s consultation on the proposal to introduce a 20mph speed limit throughout the village ends tomorrow (8th October).

Stop The Arc Group

Residents will remember that details of the Government’s Oxford-Cambridge Arc consultation were posted here in July.  That consultation runs until 12th October.

The Stop The Arc Group (formerly the No Expressway Group) has asked the Parish Council to publicise its own website which presents more details of the Government’s plans and the opportunity to take part in its alternative consultation at: www.noexpressway.org.

Horse Box Thefts

Three horse boxes worth more than £13,000 were stolen recently from fields on a remote part of Northfield Lane.  Thieves cut through a lock on the gates to the paddock and used a gas cutter to burn off locks and wheel clamps fixed to the boxes.

The trailers, worth £4,500 each, belonged to Jane Hemery and Emma Jennings who live in the village.  They say they are deeply upset by the thefts which will make it difficult when they want to move the animals. Continue reading

Q & A Drop-in Session

Sustrans, the charity that makes it easier for people to walk and cycle, will be holding a Q & A drop-in session with with its staff from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Friday 8th of October at the Village Hall.

Tesco Blue Tokens

Long Wittenham Pre-School has been shortlisted for a cash boost from the Tesco Community Grants initiative.  Three groups in every community will now bid to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores (Didcot Superstore, Cockcroft Express, Cholsey Express and Goring Express) to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.
