Long Wittenham Athletics Club is looking forward to the Summer and the easing of Covid restrictions with several events planned for the village at Bodkins Field.

On 1st May there will be a nine-a-side football tournament with a beer and cider festival.

Pump Track at Acklings

Plans are well in hand to build a ‘Pump Track’ at the Acklings play area.  A pump track is a circuit of bumps and banked turns for riding around on a bike.

It is designed to accommodate all ages: older riders enjoy practising tricks on the hills, while younger children can run up and down the hills or go over them on their balance bikes. Continue reading

May Local Elections

His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh

Long Wittenham Parish Council is saddened to learn that His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle on 9th April.

New Parish Councillor

The village has a new parish councillor.  Steve Bolton, who lives in Westfield Road, was co-opted on to the parish council at last night’s meeting.

Cllr Bolton, who is retired, worked for many years at the Cowley car plant on Rolls Royce and Mini production.  He is married with two daughters.  He moved to the village thirty-six years ago from Appleford. Continue reading

Planning Application

The Parish Council has been advised by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) of a new planning application within the village.

The application at The Grange, High Street, Long Wittenham, is for the construction of a 10m x 4m x 1.8m outdoor swimming pool with an associated plant room.

Bells Rehung at St Mary’s

The restored bells at St Mary’s Church have been rehung and are ready to be rung, but unfortunately, this will not happen in the immediate future.  Covid-19 protocols and social distancing mean it will be some time before they will be heard properly.

They were inspected last Thursday (1st April) by a representative of the Guild Tower and Bells, signed off, and the paper work completed. Continue reading
