Coronavirus Scams

Residents are warned to be on their guard against criminals and scammers exploiting the Coronavirus situation.

The Oxfordshire County Council’s Trading Standards team has received reports of scams targeting people via emails, text messages, and on the doorstep.  Full details and advice from the Trading Standards team are here:

Clap For Carers

The village stepped out in force last evening for Clap For Carers, paying tribute to NHS staff and volunteers who are helping to provide essential services during the Coronavirus emergency.

People emerged from their homes and into the streets to applaud the efforts of NHS workers and volunteers for at least two minutes.  Others opened their windows and clapped.

Shielding Our Most Vulnerable

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has asked the Parish Council to share the following information with residents:

Our most vulnerable residents across Oxfordshire will have recently received correspondence from the NHS, identifying them as high risk and advising them to strictly self-isolate for twelve weeks.

Going Forward Buses – Services Suspended

The Parish Council has been asked to pass on this message from Going Forward Buses:

It is with regret that we advise we are suspending all our services from Saturday 28th March 2020 onwards.  The numbers travelling have fallen so dramatically that we cannot continue operating, and in any case we feel it is difficult to justify running services when the government is asking everyone not to travel.  “Stay home, save lives”. Parking Charges Suspended

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 23rd March regarding travel restrictions, South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of White Horse District Council have suspended all parking charges with immediate effect.  This applies to all district council car parks across the two districts.

South and Vale have taken this action to support key workers and those who need to shop for essential food or medical supplies during the Coronavirus pandemic. Continue reading

Playareas Closed

Following Government restrictions, as a result of the Coronavirus crisis, the playareas in the village have been closed.  Residents may use the grounds for exercise, in line with Government guidance, but the play equipment must not be used.

The Parish Council will not be carrying out its weekly safety inspections until further notice, and anyone using the equipment does so at their own risk. Continue reading

Going Forward Buses Update

Community bus services between Long Wittenham and Didcot face disruption as the Coronavirus emergency tightens its grip on travel and social activities.

Going Forward Buses which runs the service, say that services may be subject to short-notice cancellations.  Passengers are warned that if they are waiting for a bus and it hasn’t arrived within fifteen minutes, then they should check Facebook or call the bus company. Continue reading

Didcot and Surrounding Area Infrastructure Consultation

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) is holding an online consultation to update local people on the latest transport infrastructure plans within Didcot and the surrounding area.  The plans include the widening of the A4130, the Science Bridge, the Didcot to Culham River Crossing and the Clifton Hampden Bypass.

Work on these infrastructure improvements follows the successful funding announcement for £218 million from Government in March 2019 known as the Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF).  Although the funding for the transport improvements has been announced, Continue reading

District Council Closes Offices

Due to the ongoing public health risk from Coronavirus, South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC)  has closed its office building and reception in Milton Park to the public and the majority of staff.

Residents can continue to access information about council services, and make payments, or make an application or a report via the council’s website: www.southoxon.gov.uk.
