New Permissive Path for West Field
A new “permissive path” is to be established on West Field, an area popular with walkers.
Footpaths around the field have been used by residents for years but legally they are restricted to the bridleway running from the end of Fieldside, and the footpath at the end of Westfield and Saxons Heath which leads to the Appleford Road. Continue reading
New Administrator for 200 Club
We are pleased to announce that Richard May is the new administrator of the Village Hall 200 Club Lottery. He takes over from Ian Penberth who has done the job for several years. Thanks to Ian for all his work.

Bishop Opens Church Extension
The new £100,000 timber-framed extension providing toilet facilities at St. Mary’s church was opened by the Bishop of Dorchester, the Rt. Rev. Colin Fletcher, on the 8th March.
Bishop Colin blessed and dedicated the new extension to the north door at a special service in the church. The extension provides a disabled toilet and baby-changing facilities. Annual Parish Assembly – Thursday 14th March
The Annual Parish Assembly will take place next Thursday 14th March at 7:30pm in the Village Hall. This is an opportunity for residents to hear from the Chairman of the Parish Council, District & County Councillors, community groups and other organisations in the village about their achievements over the past year and plans for the next twelve months.

Kler Appeals Didcot Road Plan
Residents will be disappointed to hear that Kler Group has decided to appeal the decision against its planning application to realign the Didcot Road to facilitate the entrance to their housing development on the corner of Didcot Road and Fieldside.

The Parish Council is seeking to have Ackling’s Playground at the western end of the village registered as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). This means that if St John’s College, from which the Parish Council rents the land, wishes to sell it in the future, the village would be given the opportunity to purchase it for the community.

Long Wittenham’s Plough Inn has earned high praise for its beer selection in a competition run by Camra the national real ale pressure group. The Plough came second in a short list of five pubs in South Oxfordshire.

Death of Former Councillor
Former Long Wittenham Parish Councillor Andy Humphreys has died at the age of 57. Mr Humphreys was born in the village and spent a large part of his life in the community. He moved to Didcot last year to care for his 91-year-old mother Margaret.
