Come to the May Fayre

Don’t forget that this year’s Long Wittenham School Fayre will take place on Saturday 12th May between noon and 3:00pm.

There will be Maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen as well as a Grand National race, traditional games & stalls, the church plant sale, beer tent, barbecue and lots more.

Long Wittenham Fun Run 2018

Start stretching those muscles in preparation for the Long Wittenham Fun Run which, this year, will take place on Sunday 10th June starting at 11am.

As usual, the start and finish will be at The Plough where there will also be a barbecue, pub fayre and beer gardens.

All finishers will receive bananas and certificates and there will be awards to category winners. Continue reading

Community Hub Update

Work on the Community Hub is progressing.  The option agreement between the landowner, Mr Weavers and our developer, Thomas Homes, has been signed and confirmed.  Now that this is in place, Thomas Homes is working on the detailed designs for the preschool, school and village hall, as well as the houses that will pay for them.

200 Club Update

It’s renewal time for the Village Hall 200 Club – the draw which supports the maintenance and improvement of the village hall.  Collectors will be out and about over the next few weeks, but first they will be at the Lunch Club today and at the Swap Shop on Saturday (both in the Village Hall).  Please bring your £12 to one of these events if you can – it saves time and shoe leather!

Lottery Supports The Friends

The Friends of St Mary’s Long Wittenham has been accepted as a beneficiary of the South Oxfordshire Charitable Lottery.

The Friends charity was founded over twenty years ago by a group of Long Wittenham residents who got together to raise funds to provide those little extras for the church that normal church funds can’t.  The major project at present is the building of a much needed all-access toilet and kitchen to make the church a friendlier and more useful facility in the village. No Elections In May

South Oxfordshire District Council have asked the parish council to inform residents that, unlike other parts of the county, there are no elections in the district on 3rd May 2018 so it won’t be sending out voting cards or postal votes.

The next scheduled elections in the district are in May 2019.

Thumbs Down for Housing Plan

More than sixty people packed into Long Wittenham village hall last evening for an extraordinary parish council meeting to discuss plans by West Waddy and Lagan Homes to build twenty nine houses on land next to Bodkin’s sports field.  Residents condemned the plans and the parish council backed the objectors by voting unanimously to oppose the development.
