West Waddy Statement of Community Involvement

The Parish Council has been informed by West Waddy ADP that they have submitted a planning application to South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) for the development of twenty nine houses on the field next to Bodkin’s Field.  We expect the application to appear on the SODC Planning website in the next couple of weeks.

To support the application they have prepared a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).  The aim of an SCI is to provide information on the process and outcomes of the variety of consultations which have taken place with the local community, including local Continue reading

It was in December 1997 when principal organiser June Woodage spoke to villagers to see if they would be interested in joining a lunch club.  Late in January 1998 a note was delivered to every home in both Long and Little Wittenham, inviting people to a get together on 12th February.  On that first menu for thirty-eight members was soup, bread and cheese and a hot drink for 50 pence. The Wittenham Wannabees (the men) were victorious last year and the ladies team (Wittenham Warriors) came in a respectable top 10 position.  No mean feat against predominantly all male or mixed crews.

This year however, The Dragon Boat Race (DBR) Committee (Tom Mellor, Tory and Jason Edwards) is planning only one mixed boat entry and they need a squad of 20 people from Continue reading

House Building Pressures Mount

In common with many communities in Oxfordshire and the rest of the country, Long Wittenham is coming under pressure from developers to build homes.  Look everywhere in the near vicinity and new homes are being built or are planned.  More than 3,000 houses are proposed as part of the Culham Science Village development.  It is a key part of South Oxfordshire District Council’s Local Plan which is currently under scrutiny.

The parish council wants to bring residents up to date on several planning issues and needs to enlist support in managing pressures from developers. Continue reading
