Long Wittenham is within the Wallingford Division.
It’s all change on the Long Wittenham Parish Council. At the annual meeting on 20th April Gordon Rogers was elected chairman and Martin Elliff vice-chairman. They replace Steve Brown and Simon Thompson.
Mr Brown remains a councillor to focus on developing the proposed village Hub – a new village hall, school, pre-school and up to 40 homes on land off Didcot Road opposite Saxons Heath. Mr Thompson leaves the council because of increasing work commitments and family reasons but says he would like to return to the council in the future.

The Village Spring Litter Pick & Swapshop will take place on Saturday 22nd April at Long Wittenham Village Hall 10am – noon
On this occasion we will be joined by mums and children who will be running a stall selling delicious homemade cakes & treats to raise money for new playground equipment at Bodkins Field.
Litter Pick – come along to the village hall where you will be provided with HI Viz jackets, gloves, rubbish bags & litter pickers. You then choose an area of the village that you would like to ‘Litter Pick’ and when you have done your sterling work you are rewarded with tea & cake, plus the pleasure of knowing you have had a part in keeping our village beautiful. The Parish Council will hold it’s annual meeting in the Village Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday 20th April. This will be followed at 7:45pm by the monthly meeting.

Come along and join in the May celebrations at the Long Wittenham School Fair from noon to 3pm on Saturday 13th May. There will be Maypole Dancing and the crowning of the May Queen, with lots of fun and games for the children as well as Cream Teas, Cakes, BBQ, Craft Stalls, Church Plant Sale, Street Dance and much much more!
Following the meeting in the village hall on 30th March to discuss the new Community Hub, the parish council and Chris Brotherton of Thomas Homes, our chosen developer for the project, are in the process of consolidating all the ideas that have been suggested so far.
The Hub will include a new primary school, a purpose built pre-school, a new village hall and outside recreation space and residents are encouraged to contribute their ideas to the design process.

The Village Hall 200 Club is a long-standing feature of village life in Long Wittenham. In the 2016-7 year, 159 members funded £780 in prizes leaving a balance of over £1,100 to go towards the maintenance and improvement of the Village Hall.
There are cash prizes through the year: £10 per week for 48 weeks, £50 in June and December and £100 in September and March.
Subscription is £12 for a full year April to March, pro-rata for the remaining months.

A £100m river crossing road linking Didcot and the Science Centre at Culham is a high priority in South Oxfordshire District Council’s latest draft of the Local Plan (LP) which was published on 29th March. The blue print for development until 2033 also includes the provision of nearly 21,000 new homes.
About 3,500 are proposed at Culham and up to 2,100 at Berinsfield. The old Chalgrove airfield site is planned to take 3,000 homes. The Culham site is regarded as ideal for housing because it’s next to the railway station and Science Centre. The number of new houses at Culham would be capped at 750 until the new Didcot-Culham river crossing road is fully funded.

Long Wittenham’s plan for a village hub including a new school, pre-school, village hall, play-sport area, new homes and parking moved a step closer when developer Thomas Homes outlined proposals at a public consultation meeting in the village hall on 30th March. The views of residents are being sought about what type of facilities should be available in the village hall and on the play and sport area. It is important that we hear your ideas.
