Follow the Countryside Code

Following a recent incident in which a ewe in the field next to Fieldside was attacked and badly injured by a dog, owners are reminded that the Countryside Code requires that dogs are kept under effective control and not allowed to stray off public rights of way, and that it is always good practice (and a legal requirement on ‘open access’ land) to keep dogs on a lead around farm animals and horses, for your own safety and for the welfare of the animals.

As good neighbours, let’s all follow the Countryside Code and help protect the animals in the village.

Power Cuts Advice

The Parish Council has received this information from UK Power Networks (the distribution network operator covering London, the South East and the East of England) which residents may find useful:

Our electricity network is built to be resilient but extreme weather can damage overhead power lines resulting in some customers losing their electricity supply.  Where this happens we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, and we have organised for additional staff in our contact centre and more engineers on the ground to be available to help customers whose electricity supply might be affected by extreme weather.

You will be able to find regular updates on our website www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk and Continue reading

Kler Planning Application Update

It was expected that Kler’s planning application for up to 36 houses on the field at the corner of Fieldside and the Didcot Road would come up before the South Oxfordshire District Council’s Planning Committee in March, but Kler have now lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate on the grounds of ‘non-determination’, i.e. SODC has failed to make a decision on the application in a reasonable time.

On balance it is believed that this will be good news for the village although there will be a lot of work to do when the case is heard, and it takes the decision out of the hands of local politicians and away from the democratic process offered by Neighbourhood Planning.

At this point it is not known how the Kler appeal will be heard, whether at a full hearing, Continue reading

Fullamoor Quarry Decision Looming

Oxfordshire County Council have begun a second round of public consultation on the sand and gravel quarry between Clifton Hampden and Culham.  The planning decision will depend on this consultation response.

Hills Quarry Products have supplied further information, but according to Bachport (Burcot & Clifton Hampden for the Protection of the River Thames), nothing in their proposal has changed:

  • Bachport’s concerns have not been addressed.
  • The Culham Science Centre’s concerns have not been addressed.
  • The quarry will generate significant, long-term, negative impacts on the four surrounding villages and on visitors using the Thames and Thames Path.

Bachport ask that if you previously objected, to write again or resend your letter.  If you Continue reading
