If you use an electric blanket or you know someone who uses one please encourage them to get it tested before using it this winter.

Kler submitted their original planning application for 36 houses on the field on the corner of the Didcot Road and Fieldside in April.
On 8th September they submitted revisions to their application that seek to address some of the issues raised by consultees and the Parish Council. As a result of these amendments, SODC have opened the case again for 21 days of consultation ending 6th October. It is expected that the application will now go before the SODC Planning Committee possibly in December.

The draft NDP was completed in July and, following discussion and approval from SODC, it was sent out to consultation with residents and statutory bodies. A meeting in the village hall on 30th July was attended by over 90 people and most expressed support for the NDP. The main areas of concern expressed by a few residents related to the re-building of the school on a new site, rather than refurbishment of the existing school, and the number of houses required. (The community hub – school, pre-school and hall – will be financed entirely from profit from these houses and the number of houses is relatively low because the landowner is prepared to sell land at less than market value).

As announced in previous posts, the Oxfordshire Mobile Library Service ceases today. An alternative for those users who cannot get to the libraries in Wallingford or Didcot is the Home Library Service which will bring books to them.
The County Council is launching a new county-wide campaign to recruit more volunteers to the Home Library Service. The Service is run and managed by Oxfordshire Libraries and is made possible through the work of volunteers. Home Library Service volunteers choose and deliver books to those who are unable to get to a library. Volunteers are a friendly face who can stop by at least once every three weeks to bring books or CDs to customers and stop for a chat. Don’t miss the big bargain book sale at St Mary’s Church Long Wittenham on Saturday 17th September 2016 between 10am and Noon. Hundreds of books, DVDs and CDs are available, all at the bargain price of 20p each or six for £1.
All proceeds go to the Friends of St Mary’s building projects fund.
The first Long Wittenham Apple Day will take place on Saturday 8th October starting at 2pm.
Apple Day is being organised by Wittenham Warriors and hosted by Sylva Foundation at The Wood Centre, Little Wittenham Road.

Outline plans for another huge housing development in Didcot have been approved by councillors despite fears of traffic growth and its impact on surrounding communities.
Members of South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee meeting in Didcot gave unanimous approval to the extension of the Ladygrove estate north-east of the town. But councillors said traffic concerns must be addressed.
