South Oxfordshire Tops Recycling Table

Residents in South Oxfordshire are officially the best recyclers in the country, according to a government league table published recently.

The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) published the recycling performance league table for 2022-23 on 31st January.  South Oxfordshire District Council was ranked the highest for household waste recycling rates among English local authorities at 61.6%.  The council Continue reading

Pendon Museum Pop-up Café

The pop-up café at Pendon Museum will be open again on Wednesday 7th February from 10am to 12:30pm.

This is a free drop-in event, with just a small charge for drinks and cake to cover the costs.  All donations from the cakes go to support a local group, so please go along and support it if you can.

New Vicar Licensed

The Revd Joanna Allen has been licensed as a Team Vicar in the Dorchester Team Ministry with pastoral responsibility for Long with Little Wittenham, Clifton Hampden and Culham.

The Bishop of Dorchester performed the licensing ceremony last Wednesday evening (31st January) in Dorchester Abbey.

Childcare Support

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) has asked the Parish Council to share the following information with residents.

Starting in April this year, existing childcare support is being expanded.  From 1st April 2024, eligible working parents of two-year-olds will be able to access 15 hours a week of funded childcare support for 38 weeks of the year. Continue reading

Great British Insulation Scheme

A resident has asked the Parish Council to draw attention to the free funding that is available from the UK Government towards insulating homes.

Applications to the £1 billion Great British Insulation Scheme are open, and according to the government, the funding could save eligible homeowners on average up to £400 a year on their energy bills. Continue reading

Junior Modelling Sessions

Pendon Museum will be running Junior Modelling sessions in the school holidays again this year.

On Wednesdays in the half-term and summer holidays, from 11am to 3-15pm, children aged 6 to 14 can participate in its free drop-in junior modelling sessions, included with the price of admission.

Overhanging Hedges and Trees

Last year, the Parish Council wrote to several residents around the village because it had received complaints about overgrown hedges or trees making it difficult or even unsafe to use our footways (pavements) or roads.

In the main those residents were very responsive and did cut back as necessary to ensure the immediate problems were resolved. Continue reading
