Jubilee Postscript

Residents will be interested to hear that the Jubilee Best-Dressed House competition was won by the owners of 10 Saxons Heath, Sophie and Gaetan Staples, for the splendid crocheted and kitted display along their front wall.  They won a plate of cupcakes and a bottle of Prosecco.

Jubilee Roundup

It was a busy weekend in the village with a fantastic range of events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee: the Fun Dog Event at The Plough Inn on Friday afternoon; the Family Sports Day at Bodkins on Saturday afternoon; the 1950s Evening at the Athletics Club on Saturday evening; the Sorelle Singers Concert at St Mary’s on Saturday evening; and the grand finale, the Children’s Parade on the High Street and Party at The Plough Inn on Sunday afternoon. Another Jubilee Visitor

Among all the other visitors to the village this weekend, residents will have noticed that Her Majesty The Queen was also to be seen at the village bus shelter, en route to her royal residences, and accompanied by her loyal corgis – see below.

Jubilee Visitors

Mingling with residents celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in the village this weekend are two people from Adelaide in Australia, Edwin Heywood and his eldest son Daniel.

Two years ago on behalf of the family, three Hazel trees were planted in Little Wittenham Woods in memory of their late wife and mother Elizabeth, known in the village as Betty Wrench. Continue reading

Celebrate with Care

NHS Oxfordshire has asked the Parish Council to promote the ‘Celebrate with Care’ initiative over the Jubilee weekend.

The Celebrate with Care message aims to encourage relatives and neighbours to help elderly members of the community feel involved with the celebrations and offer support through the Oxfordshire County Council ‘LiveWell’ scheme. Continue reading

District Councillor Community Grants

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has launched a new round of funding from the Councillor Community Grants scheme, with applicants being encouraged to think about funding for projects that would contribute to the district council’s Corporate Plan priorities: to protect and restore our natural world; take action on the climate emergency; and improve economic and community wellbeing.

Every South Oxfordshire ward has up to £5,000 per district councillor to award to projects or services that offer community benefits to their residents. Continue reading
