Charity Treasure Hunt – 10th May

Mark Sunday the 10th May in your diaries for the Charity Treasure Hunt in aid of Beagle Welfare at the Athletics Club on Bodkins Field from 10:30am.

The Treasure Hunt is a walkies of about 3 miles, with clues to solve along the way.   The team with the most correct answers in the fastest time wins a £50 voucher of their choice.  Entry is £10 per team.  The first fifty teams will receive a goody bag at the finish, and there will be a prize for the best team name. Volunteers Wanted for Village Hall Committee

Did you know that the Village Hall, the hub of our community, is run by a small committee of volunteers?  The present committee is made up of elected members and representatives from hall users.

The hall is home to the Pre-school, Lunch Club, Good Neighbours Group, Brownies, Yoga, Pilates, Strength and Balance Class, Karate, WI, Parish Council meetings, polling at elections, plus various village events and casual hire by residents and others. Continue reading

Village Exhibition for Archaeology Finds

Vanderbilt Homes, the developers of the housing site on the corner of Fieldside and Didcot Road, plans to exhibit findings from its archaeological dig at an exhibition for the school and villagers.

As part of its obligations in developing the site, the company was required to carry out a detailed archaeological dig.  This revealed several very early post Roman burials and an emerging Anglo Saxon community, possibly based on German allied troops who served with the late Roman army. Reporting Weather Related Incidents

With Storm Dennis looming, the Emergency Planning Department at Oxfordshire County Council has asked the Parish Council to share the following information with residents:

As you will have seen on the news we are due some wet and windy weather again this weekend.   The latest reports indicate that wind speeds will be slightly lower than last week but rainfall is likely to be heavier so there is an increased chance of flooding. Continue reading

OCC Passes Motion to Accept SODC Planning Powers

Our District Councillor Sam Casey-Rerhaye sent this report of the Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) meeting at which the motion to accept South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) planning powers was debated:

Local democracy means nothing to County Councillors it seems.  An election mandate gets in their way and the County Councillors voted to energetically collude with the Minster to remove planning powers from South Oxfordshire. Continue reading

New Associate Team Vicar Appointed

It has been announced that, following the appointment process in January, The Bishop of Dorchester and the Team Rector will appoint the Revd Canon Mark Haworth as Associate Team Vicar (HfD)* in the Dorchester Team Ministry, within which he will take pastoral responsibility for the three parishes known as the Bridge Group.

Mark hails from Lancashire and graduated in Forestry at Aberdeen.  He then worked with the Forestry Commission in the Scottish Borders, Lake District, East Anglia and the Continue reading

Annual Parish Assembly

The Annual Parish Assembly will take place on Thursday 12th March at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

This is an opportunity for residents to hear from the Chairman of the Parish Council, District & County Councillors, community groups and other organisations in the village about their achievements over the past year and plans for the next twelve months.

Vanderbilt Homes and Didcot Road Traffic Calming

Some residents have asked if it is worth objecting?  Well, yes it is!  You may think that objecting to new developments in the village is not worth the bother as no-one takes any notice.

Recently we saw the plans for Vanderbilt’s housing development.  The Parish Council and a number of residents sent in lots of complaints about its ideas.  Vanderbilt is now making huge changes to its plans to take into account our concerns.  South Oxfordshire District Council’s Planning Officer has also told the Continue reading
