The new Oxfordshire County Councillor for Long Wittenham is Dr Pete Sudbury who won the Wallingford seat for the Green Party yesterday, taking 40.9% of the total vote.
The Conservative candidate Adrian Lloyd came second with 31.0%, the Independent Elaine Hornsby came third with 19.8%, and the Labour Party candidate, George Kneeshaw came fourth with a share of 8.3%.

Braving the rain, more than one hundred people welcomed the first royal visitor to Long Wittenham in 1300 years. The Countess of Wessex performed the official opening yesterday (27th November) of the House of Wessex, the re-construction of an ancient Anglo-Saxon house at the Sylva Foundation’s Wood Centre headquarters in Little Wittenham Road.

A reminder that voting will take place tomorrow (28th November) for the Oxfordshire County Councillor seat for the Wallingford division of which Long Wittenham is part. Voting will take place between 7am and 10pm at the village hall.

Motorists in South Oxfordshire can enjoy free parking in district council car parks on certain days in the run up to Christmas.
The annual free parking tradition is provided by South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils to encourage people to shop locally for their Christmas presents. The free parking days allocated to each area are agreed with the individual town councils depending on which day would best suit local traders. Continue reading
Some residents may have noticed signs on the road on the way out of the village towards Clifton Hampden which state that work will start there on 25th November and last for approximately five days.
The Parish Council has not received formal notice of these works but as the signs are at either end of the raised walkway, it is assumed that the work will repair the damage to the walkway. Continue reading
Doubts are beginning to surface over the future of the proposed Oxford to Cambridge Expressway which could pass within a few miles of Long Wittenham.
The Transport secretary Grant Shapps is quoted as saying that the Conservatives believe in protecting the countryside and the benefits of the Expressway were “finely balanced against the costs both financially and environmental”. Continue reading
Long Wittenham is to get an additional bus service starting on Monday 2nd December. And on Wednesdays, passengers will have a second bus giving them more time in the town.
For the last six months, the service by Going Forward Buses has been running a Wednesday morning service to Didcot. Now the Goring-based company wants to expand, encouraged by its growing popularity.

More than thirty people attended last night’s village meeting to discuss plans by Vanderbilt Homes for the housing development on the corner of Fieldside and Didcot Road. It was the first time that villagers had an opportunity to talk to the developers.
For seventy-five minutes, Nathan Craker from the company and Guy Wakefield, for Vanderbilt’s planning consultants, fielded a range of critical questions from residents, many of whom attacked the proposals. Continue reading

Less than three weeks to go to the Sorelle concert at St Mary’s Church on Saturday 7th December. Some Enchanted Evening promises to be a magical event celebrating the witches, fairies and enchantresses of opera and musical theatre, and, as well as an evening of delightful music, there will also be a table of homemade Christmas food and gifts for members of the audience to purchase.
